Angel Olsen: Live at The Constellation Room 4/16/2015
This is a live recording of when I saw Angel Olsen opening up for Swans at the Constellation Room in Santa Ana. I had seen her once before with my then-girlfriend/now-wife Rachel, and it was the full-band entity. We really wanted to see her again, and I really wanted to see Swans. We didn't get to see the whole Swans set because Rachel wasn't feeling very well and the family-friendly music of Swans was not helping, so we unfortunately had to leave 30 minutes into them playing. Angel played solo, which was a slight letdown when we found this out, but it all changed when she started playing. She definitely has a way of carrying her songs on her own, sans band. Since it was a more quiet set, I decided to take a stab at recording it with my phone. Surprisingly, the recordings weren't half bad. Since I'm now finally posting this show almost two-years later and MY WOMAN has already come out, it's fun to hear a few of these songs that were unreleased at the time in their infant state. I cut off a bit of Heart Shaped Face at the beginning since I started recording after the song started, and I may have not recorded the first song. In spite of these things, I think it's a pretty decent little live recording. The crowd was mellow, polite, and respectful; that definitely helped. Also, for those who don't know, the Constellation Room is connected to a larger venue called the Observatory, and there was a Tech N9ne concert going on in there at the same time. There were Juggalos a plenty roaming around, and it was funny to see them accidentally wander into the Constellation Room while Angel was playing. She comments on the enthusiasm of the Tech N9ne fans at the beginning of Sister. Enjoy.
